Responsibilities

The Vice President of Community Health Ministries (CHM) at the system level is a position of a key senior leader on the Community Impact team. The expectations for this team member and national senior leader will be to lead strategy and operations of the CHMs nationally.

The Vice President of Community Health Ministries (CHM) must be mission-driven and accountable for the success of our CHMs in communities where we serve and be strategically focused on opportunities to optimize current operations and build a strong foundation for our future state.

Today, Ascension CHMs are located in multiple practices which provide medical, dental, social services within Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Texas.

The Vice President of CHM will serve as a critical leader advocating for all strategies related to CHMs, collaborating with all internal teams to ensure seamless integration with Ascension’s portfolio. This autonomous and outcome-oriented role will function as the single thread of authority accountable for achieving Ascension’s CHM-related objectives and key results. As subject matter expert, this role will provide key direction to health equity-driven performance strategy and population health interventions within Ascension’s CHM portfolio. In addition, the Vice President of CHMs is an integral part of the Community Impact team tasked with informing our organization’s overall strategic direction pertaining to community care delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for all aspects of performance of Community Health Ministries (CHMs) including, but not limited to performance in: daily operations, value based care, Shared savings and revenue of CHMs.

  • Provides expertise and leadership in developing and implementing strategies that improve the health status of individuals in targeted local communities through sponsored activities, programs and strategic partnerships.

  • Identify opportunities and challenges to performance within other organization services and work across departments to develop consumer-centric, personalized, and scalable solutions.

  • Develop an enterprise-wide strategy for improving care quality and experience within CHMs to reduce disparities and advance health equity initiatives.

  • Develop strategy addressing sustainability and potential growth in alignment with System through interventions and trainings at CHM markets in partnership with system and ministry wide functions.

  • Develop and lead meetings and initiatives with representatives of the CHMs and key stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders to advance community health partnership opportunities.

  • Maintain both productive external relationships and partnerships, and an internal environment in which staff and board work at CHMs work closely together to successfully address the organization’s Strategic Plan.

  • Serves as the representative on community coalitions, task forces, boards, and other groups pertaining to the CHMs that share our mission and priorities relative to improving the health of the community and promoting the ministry's community presence and mission.

  • Develops, oversees, monitors, and evaluates major community health ministry improvement programs and initiatives.

  • Provides leadership for improving access to care for uninsured consistent with mission, principles, and call to action.

  • Foster genuine teamwork and a sense of common purpose among all staff, through appropriate delegation, decision-making, clarity in roles, and team collaboration which ensures that tasks are completed efficiently and with respect for all- aligning with our mission, principles and values.

  • Work in partnership with local CHM operational leaders and managers to ensure full alignment of people, processes, and places, supporting appropriate operational and clinical responses to a changing environment.

  • Provides leadership for the development and approval of strategic plans and priorities for community health programs and services.

  • Support and participate in quality management and related programs, including, but not limited to accreditation and Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) recognition, and also foster continual health center improvement

  • Lead through personal integrity, respect for all, and clear commitment to excellence, and ensure the same from all staff. Ensure successful Risk Management awareness and action, as well as ongoing compliance.

  • Prepares, presents, and maintains a budget. Reports on progress and outcomes of community health ministries programs, initiatives, and partnerships including metrics and key performance indicators.

  • Successfully undertake and navigate change.

Complexity of Work:

  • Within the scope of the job, it requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in an environment that requires collaboration and trust with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Requires strong leadership and managerial skills.

Requirements

Education:

  • Master’'s degree or advanced degree(s) in business, health administration, and/or public policy or other relevant fields.

Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • 5-7 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 4 of those years being in leadership/management.

  • 7 years of successfully leading and growing Community Health initiatives including knowledge of community health center business, funding models.

  • Senior-level experience in strategic planning and health care operations (system and local level preferred).

  • Ability to travel roughly a third of the time or as needed in the role.
